In the most mountainous part of Paros, we find the greenest village on the island, Lefkes, a popular destination in Paros and in the Aegean islands, in general. Its beauty and authenticity attract thousands of visitors who want to spend a few moments of relaxation in a traditional Cycladic setting.
Location and History
Lefkes village is located at an altitude of 200 meters, 10 kilometers from Parikia, the capital. It used to be the capital of Paros during the Middle Ages. This fact can be seen in its architectural heritage, especially in the number of marvellous churches that date back to medieval times. The town was built to protect its inhabitants from pirate raids that plagued the Mediterranean at that time. Although it is not a seaside village, it is undoubtedly an exquisite village of Paros, built under a hill, surrounded by olive groves and a pine forest, with a breathtaking view of the Aegean sea.
Lefkes took its name from the poplar trees that dominated the area…

What to see
Lefkes consists of white-washed stone houses that are built amphitheatrically, byzantine squares and quaint churches with blue domes, narrow picturesque alleys and tiny streets teeming with bougainvillea, which visitors should explore on foot in order to see this quintessentially Cycladic village.
The main street of the village is called Ramnos, where you can find most touristy shops, wonderful neoclassical buildings, some old laundries still used, traditional taverns and the House of Literature. The mission of this House is to host professional writers and literature translators from all over the world.

As in every Greek village, the central square of the village is where the heart of this place beats. Sit in the quaint cafes, enjoying the shade, next to the historic marble Monument of war Heroes, near the main square of the town.
The landmark of the village is the church of Agia Triada, which was built in 1835, with the characteristic entrance and the impressive facade with the two bell towers. The monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos, the church of Agia Kyriaki and the church of Panagia Ypapanti are also among the most famous places in Lefkes.
The highest peak of Paros is nearby, at an altitude of 755 meters. The view from there is unforgettable. Your holidays in Paros would not be complete without visiting this place!
