Homer’s Tomb (also called the Tomb of Homer) is a tomb located on the island of Ios, Greece. The tomb is one of the most famous attractions in the Cycladic Islands. Dedicated to the Greek poet and writer Homer, who is said to have died in Ios, this impressive monument sits at an elevation of 155 meters above sea level.

Homer is revered as the greatest poet of all time, and the writer of The Iliad and The Odyssey. Though many historians doubt whether he actually existed, there is archaeological evidence that suggests he did live on Ios Island in the Mediterranean Sea around 950 BC.

Homer’s tomb is one of the most famous tourist attractions on the island of Ios . A small square structure built of stone and marble, about 1 meter high, is inscribed “HERE THE EARTH COVERS THE SACRED HEAD OF MEN AND HEROES HOMER THE DIVINE POET”, as well as a slightly larger plaque which reads “HOMER WAS BORN HERE, LIVED HERE AND DIED ON THIS ISLAND”.
