If you think you know everything about Greece, you are probably wrong!

  1. 80% of the country’s territory is mountainous. The country does not have a single navigable river, due to this particular geomorphology.
  2. On average, people in Greece enjoy 250 days of sunshine a year. This is 3,000 enjoyable hours of sunshine per year.
  3. Greece has more archaeological museums than any other country in the world, which, of course, is not surprising for its history and culture.
  4. On average, around 16.5 million tourists arrive in Greece every year. This means that visitors outnumber the local population which is approximately 10 million!
  5. Greece is the number one country in the world in sponge trade.
  6. Greek islands reach 3,100 in number, but only 170 of them are populated.
  7. Athens has been continuously inhabited for 7,000 years. This fact makes it one of the oldest cities in Europe.
  8. Ships with Greek flag make up 70% of the entire commercial fleet in Europe.
  9. No part of Greece is more than 137 kilometers away from the sea. The country’s coastline is the tenth longest in the world.
  10. About 7% of the marble used worldwide comes from Greece.
