Cycling in the Argosaronic Islands and in the vineyards of the Peloponnese, hiking in the Vikos Gorge and climbing in Meteora, following 4×4 routes in the “Greek Alps”, skiing and enjoying a delicious Greek meal in a white Cycladic background, all these dispel the myth that Greece is only suitable for diving in the deep blue waters and walking under the hot sun!

A country with hundreds of mountains, dense forests and traditional, picturesque villages, rivers and enchanting lakes is an ideal destination for all seasons of the year, establishing its touristic identity as a destination of four seasons.

Tourism in Greece is rightly characterized as the “heavy industry” of the country, being one of the most important pillars of the Greek economy. Nevertheless, seasonality is something that characterizes Greek tourism, with the extension of the tourist season being a strategic goal.

The mild weather in winter, the historical monuments, the infrastructure, the diverse natural landscape of the country are factors that contribute to the development of tourism beyond the dipole “sun and sea”, on which Greek tourism has been based for decades.

In addition, Greek cities are becoming City break, lively holiday destinations throughout the year. For example, Athens as well as other Greek cities are becoming city break destinations not only for those looking for short vacations to explore the city, but also for visitors of thematic tourism, such as wine tourism or gastronomic tourism and of course religious tourism. A tourist model that is active all months of the year and not only in summer.

Furthermore, Greece wishes to attract the northern European retirees and the so-called digital nomads who have the possibility, thanks to technology, to work remotely. This year in particular, when the energy crisis is hitting the countries of Northern Europe with harsh measures and high prices, the Greek climate seems like an ideal solution.

Moreover, a plethora of outdoor activities, combined with visits to important monuments and attractions, museums and places of unique natural heritage is the best combination. In fact, compared to other regions of our continent and the rest of the planet, the Greek all season destinations have the advantage of the climate since bad weather in Greece tends to last a short time, with the sun prevailing even in the dead of winter.

In 2022 Greek tourism has experienced unexpected success with travel receipts and arrivals estimated to reach and perhaps exceed those of 2019 – a record year – when the country attracted approximately 33.1 million tourists, generating more than 18 billion euros in revenue.

The Ministry of Tourism enhances this all-year tendency; as part of these efforts, there will be promotional actions that will also concern airlines and tour operators. At the same time, a campaign will be launched in London and other European capitals with the poster “Do you want to feel 20 years old again?”, depicting an elderly couple on a sailboat enjoying their wine and finding their lost youth in Greece.

2030 is expected to be a milestone year for Greek tourism as the development strategy being followed aspires to have a stable tourist movement in the country throughout the year.

Therefore, don’t forget:  spring, summer, autumn and winter, holidays all year round in the most beautiful Mediterranean country, Greece!
